Boys Soccer
D2 South

#9 Oliver Ames, 5 @ #1 Greater New Bedford, 2 – Final – The Tigers went down inside the first minute but responded with four straight goals. Keegan Nutt responded just three minutes later, assisted by Brandon Boone. In the 12th minute, Nutt set up Chris Romero for the go-ahead goal. Boone then added to the lead, taking a feed from Romero. In the second half, Boone added his second, beating the keeper while falling down. GNBVT responded within in a minute but OA iced the game when Boone drew a penalty and John Cerce buried it into the low right corner.
“Our intensity, our speed, and our ability to play under pressure,” OA head coach John Barata said of what worked. “We neutralized their #11 the entire game and that was the difference. That was the number one goal we had. And then our transitional play was excellent.
“We didn’t let them take it to us, rather we flipped the coin and we took it to them. They’re a very good team but just today we were very good and we were on.”
Oliver Ames advances to face #5 Pembroke on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Taunton High.
