Why do you play soccer?
Soccer has been a part of my life since the day I was born. Both of my parents played soccer in college and both my sister and brother got started in the game early, so I was always going to their games and practice. My parents always tell me that the day I started walking was the day I started kicking the soccer ball around. I fell in love with soccer at an early age and I haven't stopped loving it ever since.
Why is 2012-2013 going to be a good year for Franklin High School?
I think that 2012-2013 is going to be a good year for Franklin High School because our team is completely dedicated to hard work. Franklin High School added a new strength and conditioning coach in the Spring and she has made an instant impact on our players. We are stronger, faster, and more driven than ever before. While we lost many incredible players last year, we have a lot of young talent and we have maintained our team chemistry. It will not be an easy task to replace those we graduated, but our new and returning players are ready to step up and work together to make an impact in the Hock.
What is your favorite Franklin soccer memory so far?
My favorite soccer memory hands down was beating Bishop Feehan in the South Sectional Finals in 2010. Bishop Feehan was heavily favored to win but that meant nothing to us. Our team had stronger chemistry than ever before and we wanted the win more than anything. From the opening whistle we came out ready to play and stunned everyone by pulling out a 2-1 victory. Hoisting that trophy and knowing that we had done something that Franklin Girls Soccer had never done before was incredible. We got a police escort on the way home and it felt like the whole town was cheering us on, it was exhilarating!
What were your emotions when you played your first varsity game?
My first varsity game was my freshman year, we were playing North Attleboro, and it was pouring rain. I remember walking out onto the field for the first time but surprisingly, I was not nervous. I had been waiting for my chance to play on the Varsity team since I was 7 years old watching my sisters play under coach Geysen. I was more excited than anything else. We also had a very experienced team, most of them being seniors and juniors, and they really helped me relax and just focus on playing soccer.
What makes playing for Franklin High School so special?
Playing for Franklin is such an incredible experience because our school is so athletically oriented and everyone has great school spirit. People will come to our games just to support us, even if they are not soccer fans. But nothing can top my relationship with my teammates. Our team chemistry is incredible and we are inseparable during the season. Our team becomes a family and that shows out on the field. We all play together and it makes each soccer season an unforgettable experience.
When you’re not practicing, what are you usually doing?
When I am not practicing or playing , I am usually hanging out with my friends or playing one of my other two sports: basketball and lacrosse. I also spend a lot of time focusing on school and doing homework.
