On the eve of the first volleyball games of the season, I looked through the schedules trying to find the best match ups of this promising volleyball season.
9/28 - Franklin @ North Attleboro - 4:45
These were the two best teams in the Hockomock last year and their early season matchup should be nothing short of entertaining. By the end of September, both teams will be in full gear. These two combined for a 33-3 record last year.
10/1 - Milford @ Stoughton - 5:00
Stoughton made it's girl's volleyball playoff debut last year while Milford returned to the playoffs with an identical record as the Black Knights (10-8). Both teams will look to improve as the Black Knights are only in the program's fifth season while Milford will have a new coach in former player Meredith Purtell.
10/17 - Canton @ Oliver Ames - 4:45
Oliver Ames will have to be hungry this year after losing to Canton last year and also losing Candace Steadman to graduation. These were two of the top teams in the Davenport last year and this game will be telling as to who's the top dog this season.
10/19 - North Attleboro @ Franklin - 6:00
The rematch. Less than a month after their first meeting of the season, all eyes will be focused on Franklin High when they host North. Meghan Mullen and five more seniors will look to silence Franklin on the road while Alicia Kutil and Emily Natal will try and defend home court for the Panthers.
10/26 - Brockton @ Oliver Ames - 5:00
Besides Barnstable and New Bedford, Brockton is always a cornerstone in terms of teams who make deep playoff runs year after year in girls volleyball. This will be a great test for OA, who opens the season with the Boxers, to see how far they have progressed as a team -- as well as a measuring stick to see how their skill stacks up to one of the state's better teams.
