What You Need To Know: How did you get started and who introduced you to the sport? I would always shoot in the backyard, but my dad introduced me to basketball.
What is a common misconception people have about girls and sports? That we can't handle the same pressure as the boys can.
What's more rewarding: beating a rival or bettering yourself? How would you describe your game? Bettering yourself, because by bettering yourself you can beat your rival. My mindset is always defense first because with good defense our offense will come.
What is the ratio of hours you spend practicing compared to schoolwork and how important is it to remember you're a student-athlete? 2 hours studying 3 hours working on my game, but I believe being a student-athlete is something very important to me.
What are your goals for after high school? My goals for after high school would be to play basketball at a 4 year college with a good education and receive my diploma.
What is your favorite basketball memory? Beating Milford this year for our opening game. We were losing by 3 with 27 seconds left and I hit the 3 to tie the game up. Then we got the ball back and I was dribbling up the court and passed it to another girl on my team and then we won with a buzzer shot. It was a great start to my senior year.
What are your pregame/postgame rituals? For my pregame I always start with listening to country music to calm me down, then once it starts to get closer to the game I find something more fast pace. For postgame rituals I like to go out to dinner with the team, and get ready for the next game.

What You Need To Know: How did you get started and who introduced you to the sport? I started playing basketball when I was about 5 or 6 on my Dad's team. I had grown up with my brother playing and that’s how I really got into the sport.
What is a common misconception people have about girls and sports? I think a common misconception about girls and sports is that girls aren't as intense, but girls have the same passion and intensity that guys do to win a game.
What's more rewarding: beating a rival or bettering yourself? How would you describe your game? I will always say that beating a rival is more rewarding because once you have beaten a rival you know that you have worked hard and put in your best effort to come out on top of the other team. Also, basketball is a team sport and when your team beats a rival you know that everyone did their part, and that’s when you are the most successful. I would describe my game as being fast and revolved around defense.
What is the ratio of hours you spend practicing compared to schoolwork and how important is it to remember you're a student-athlete? I would say my ratio of practicing to school work is about 2/4. It is important to remember that you are a student athlete because school always comes first, and you can't get anywhere without a solid educational background. At the same time I think being a student athlete also helps with time management.
What are your goals for after high school? After high school I plan to play either volleyball or basketball in college.
What is your favorite basketball memory? My favorite basketball memories are always just being with my team. We are really close so I enjoy hanging out with them. Another great memory was the 2010 State Championship.
What are your pregame/postgame rituals? I am very superstitious so I always do the same things before each one of my games.

Stoughton's win over Attleboro Friday night, showcased many errors in which the Black Knights need to improve on if they want to make a long run in the state tournament. Stoughton (11-1) defeated Attleboro (6-6) 77-57 in a game Stoughton committed 22 team turnovers.
Coming into the game the match up everyone was looking at was Attleboro's JJ Jolaoso (16 points) versus Stoughton junior captain Marcus Middleton (22 points, 2 blocks and 5 assists). Other notables included Attleboro sophomore Tim Walsh with 16 points, and fellow sophomore Shawn Reardon chipping in with 9 points.
The Black Knights were given a spark from senior Raymond Bowdre making his first start of the season while producing 7 points. The Black Knights enjoyed a balanced offensive attack including junior Mauro Oliviera with 14 points, junior Joe Bunce-Grenon with 6 points, senior Steffan Jackson with 7 points, senior Antonio "Nuke" Ferreira with 8 points, and junior captain Aaron Calixte with 9 points, 9 assists and 4 steals.
Stoughton shot 7/18 from the three point line, while shooting 21/32 on two point attempts.
Calixte wrapped up the game by stating, "We didn't play well. We had some turnovers but we still won, that's all that matters".
The road ahead get's a little easier for the Bombardiers as they travel to Taunton for an out of league game Wednesday night.
As for Stoughton, the Black Knights will hit the road to face Foxboro (4-9) Tuesday night before hosting the red hot Franklin Panthers (9-3) Friday night.

What You Need To Know: How did you get started and who introduced you to the sport? I started playing in the fourth grade and my parents and my brothers all played so I was surronded by the sport so I decided to join.
What is a common misconception people have about girls and sports? Most people believe that girls are weaker and are not as talented as the boys.
What's more rewarding: beating a rival or bettering yourself? Bettering myself is more rewarding because I'm not only helping my team but I help myself along the way. How would you describe your game?
I would describe my game as an intense and dedicated basketball player, with the heart and desire to play along with good skills and basketball knowledge
What is the ratio of hours you spend practicing compared to schoolwork and how important is it to remember you're a student-athlete? I would say that I practice at least two hours a day additional to my high school practice and about two hours of homework. So my ratio would be 4:2. Black Knights Top Warriors By: Ryan Lanigan
WRENTHAM - Not every game lives up to the hype. This one did.
Stoughton High (10-1) hung on to topple King Philip (9-2), 73-69, inside a packed gym at King Phiilp Regional High School Tuesday night.
The game pitted two of the Massachusetts' best players in Jake Layman (KP) and Aaron Calixte (Stoughton), and neither of them disappointed. Layman had 30 points and 13 rebounds while Calixte finished with 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.
"You could tell in the locker room, they were ready to go," Stoughton head coach John Gallivan said. "This is just a special atmosphere. I tell kids all the time, it's not going to be like this, even if you play at college. Maybe at Maryland."
One of the biggest question marks coming into the game was which Black Knight would be trying to guard the Maryland-bound, 6'8'' Layman. Some suspected Antonio Ferreira while others thought Steffan Jackson was a better match up. In the end, Stoughton went with their best defender, junior Marcus Middleton, who is 9 inches shorter than Layman.
"It's only a foot," joked Gallivan. "Marcus is just an animal defensively. He covers everybody's best player so why should we switch it. You throw it all against the wall and see what sticks. We don't want Jake to beat us but we don't want every other guy to beat us as well." Stoughton finished an impressive 28/34 from the free throw line, including 16/22 from Calixte.
"I think when Aaron was a freshman, he once missed a big foul shot and I think he basically said to himself that's never going to happen again and it hasn't."
When it mattered most for Stoughton, it was Calixte and Middleton who took over, scoring 18 of 20 points in the final quarter. Middleton finished with 20 points.
King Philip's Sam McDonald finished with 13 points while Christian Fair had 8 points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the first quarter.
Steffan Jackson had 7 points and 8 rebounds for Stoughton while Antonio Ferreira had 8 boards and 3 blocks.
Stoughton will play Attleboro on Friday while KP travels to Oliver Ames.
